Harmattan is the east wind that carries the Saharan dust that nourishes life in the American rainforest. From Anatolia, Persia, and the Sahara to Jamaica, Mexico, and Latin America, cultures become coordinates of a shared journey, finding a new sound for the present day. Acoustic instruments, percussion, and ancient musical memories meet synthesis, bass, and contemporary electronics.
The traveler behind the sound.
Barcelona-born and Mexico-based. Composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist, shaped by an ongoing journey.
Some musicians learn instruments. Others allow themselves to disappear into them.
Born in Barcelona and based in Mexico for more than a decade, Artur Lanz is a composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist whose work explores the space between ancient musical traditions and contemporary electronic production.
For Lanz, learning an instrument goes beyond technique. It means quieting the rational mind, listening to what the instrument carries, and allowing its history, tuning and cultural memory to leave a trace.
That approach shapes music where acoustic instruments, synthesis, rhythm and technology coexist naturally. Rather than collecting sounds, Lanz absorbs musical languages and lets them transform the way he composes.
His work lives somewhere between travel, memory and technology — in that uncertain place where a sound can feel both newly created and strangely ancient.
